Romain Bonnaud
Club 420 Fleet Program, Head Coach
Romain Bonnaud, at a very young age, quickly established himself as one of France’s top Optimist sailors, finishing 6th at the Optimist World Championship and winning the Nations Cup.
After his Optimist career, Romain transitioned to the 420 and then the 470.
In the 470, he became a two-time silver medalist at the World Championship, European Champion, Mediterranean Games winner, and multiple World Cup medalist.
Building on his success in the 470 dinghy, Romain transitioned into coaching, serving as the 470 coach for the United States, Great Britain, China, and Turkey.
He has coached at four consecutive Olympic Games: London 2012, Rio de Janeiro 2016, Tokyo 2020, and Paris 2024.
Since 2016, Romain has been a coach at Coral Reef Yacht Club , working with the Optimist and C420 programs while developing the next generation of competitive sailors.
Ian Robinson
Club 420 Fleet Program, Coach

Ian Robinson is a professional sailor, coach and waterman with over 15 years of experience in the sport of sailing. Growing up Ian competed in the Optimist, Club 420, and International 420 classes, as well as numerous other large boats including Melges 20, 24, 32, Tartan 10s, NA 40s, U20s, J111, J120 and many others. He is a North American champion in several different classes with other highlights including 1st at C420 Midwinters and 1st at Buzzards Bay. Ian’s goal is to make sure sailors exiting his program are well-rounded sailors who can go out and perform in any class. He puts a large priority on hard work believing that anyone can be good at sailing especially when dedicated to being as efficient as possible in their training. “A smart man learns from his own mistakes; a wise man learns from the mistakes of others.”
